Frank DeAngelis has been a staff member at Columbine High School in the Jeffco School District of Littleton Colorado since 1979. Frank became principal in 1996 and retired in June of 2014 after 35 years at Columbine High School. In April of 1999, Frank was faced with the unthinkable that redefined our country’s way of thinking about “active shooter” violence in our schools and how police and staff respond to such threat. The tragic Columbine shooting took 13 innocent lives and injured several more. Faced with the worst, Frank continued to battle through the emotions, challenges, and day to day struggles and continued to be the principal at Columbine until the students who were in the Columbine elementary schools at the time of the shooting graduated. Due to his strong leadership, a bond formed with the community, passion for his job and ability to move forward, Frank has been called upon to speak nationally about the effects of a school tragedy at a variety of conferences and has been a consultant after a number of violent school incidents. Frank now serves as a consultant for safety and emergency management for the Jeffco School District in Colorado and continues to deliver his powerful message at speaking engagements nationwide.
