Go Inside the Mind of a Teen Killer
Guard911® and Hero911® pay tribute to Phil Chalmers, renowned national speaker and author who goes “inside the mind of a teen killer” to educate law enforcement, school staff, and anyone who deals with teens on how to stop them before they kill.
Chalmers has spent 30 years studying, interviewing, and getting to know teen killers, rapists, mass murderers, and school shooters to learn what makes them tick. He uses his research and knowledge to educate others on how to identify the warning signs of a potential killer, with a unique focus on school shooters and teen killers.
Now, with Chalmers’ help, you can learn how to identify and potentially stop these kids from violent acts before anyone gets hurt.
Chalmers’ Mission
As early as high school, Chalmers knew he wanted to somehow help other youth who grew up as he did, in an abusive and dangerous environment that propagates anger, neglect, violence, and fear. He was fortunate to get out of his situation when he started high school and met a football coach who changed his life.
After some time in sports with a solid mentor, he knew he wanted to be different and help others. He began studying troubled kids. He knew he could relate to them as he had all the makings of a violent kid himself. His purpose became learning what makes certain kids finally snap and commit violent acts and teach others what to look for and how to help them before they rape or kill.
“My mission is to educate America and save the lives of our children. Along with children, it is my mission to keep our own families safe, to save the lives of teachers, school administrators, probation officers, counselors, and members of our law enforcement community.” – Phil Chalmers
America’s Leading Authority on Juvenile Homicide
As America’s Leading Authority on Juvenile Homicide, Chalmers has studied over 1,000 cases of teen murder and school violence to find patterns and predictors. He has personally interviewed over 200 teen killers and school shooters who are in jail − more than anyone in U.S. history.
His in-depth research has identified the causes, warning signs, and triggers of teen violence, among many other life-saving tactics, which he shares in his book, “Inside the Mind of a Teen Killer,” and in his high-energy, eye-opening nationwide seminars. Everything he does is about informing and educating law enforcement, schools, universities, churches, and anyone who deals with teens on how to stop violence before it starts.
From these events, he has personally helped many participants stop teen killers and get those kids the help they needed.
Identify the Patterns and Triggers to Teen Violence
One of the first things you learn in Chalmers’ teachings is that killers and violent teens don’t have a certain “look.” They behave in predictable patterns with causes, warning signs, and triggers that should alert anyone around them that violence is imminent.
The Causes: there are many causes, or motivating factors that lead kids to solve problems with violence. The top 3 causes are:
1 − Unstable abusive home, often fatherless
2 – Bullying at school or in the community
3 – Fascination with violence/games/guns
The Warning Signs: there are about a dozen warning signs that are often “leaked” to friends or on social media. They can’t keep their intentions and hatred inside anymore. The top 3 warning signs are:
1 – Make statements or threats about killing someone/mass shooting
2 – Share their obsession with deadly weapons
3 – Share their obsession with other shootings; keep a journal or blog about killing
The Triggers: a trigger is the last straw for a kid who’s already been thinking about causing harm. The top 3 triggers are:
1 for a guy – girlfriend breaks up with him, or…
1 for a girl – parents stop her from seeing someone she wants to date
2 – Expulsion or suspension from school
3 – Bullying incident at school
You Can’t Stop What You Don’t Know
Chalmers says killers don’t look like killers anymore and it only takes one warning sign and one trigger to make a school shooter. “We have to know what we’re dealing with and learn how to profile. The only way to stop teen violence is to learn what to look for, pay attention, speak up, and take action. You can’t stop what you don’t know.”
